Pre-Purchase Questionnaire / Evaluation
This questionnaire provides a good baseline of the questions you need to ask before buying any car. It's especially true
when you're looking to buy that restoration project. A good fundamental understanding of the true condition of the
vehicle will help minimize any nasty suprises down the road.
- Basic Questions
- Make/Model/Year/Trim Level
- Vin # / Engine Id #
- Mileage
- How long have you owned the car?
- How many owners has it had?
- Why are you selling it?
- Do you have reciepts / documentation?
- If so, how far back do the reciepts / documentation go?
- Is it running?
- Has it ever been in an accident?

- Legal Questions
- Do you have the title for this vehicle?
- Are you the title holder for the vehicle?
- Are there any liens on the vehicle?
- Is it a Salvage/Restoration title?
- Does this vehicle require emissions testing?
- Is this vehicle currently registered?
- If not, when was the last time it was registered?
- Evaluating the car (1 = show quality, 5 = basket case)
- Overall vehicle conditon: 1 2 3 4 5
- Condition of the body: 1 2 3 4 5
- Condition of the paint: 1 2 3 4 5
- Condition of the interior: 1 2 3 4 5
- Condition of the electronics:1 2 3 4 5
- Condition of the motor: 1 2 3 4 5
- Condition of the tires: 1 2 3 4 5

- Testing (if the car is in running condition)
- Does it start easily?
- Does it shift between gears smoothly?
- Does it accellerate smoothly?
- Any odd/unidentifyable noises from the motor?
- Do all of the lights work?
- Do all of the accessories work?
- Does the vehicle dip overly on a corner?
- Any odd/unidentifyable noises from the suspension/wheels?
